Disseminated toxoplasmosis in an immunocompetent patient from Peruvian Amazon.
We report a case of severe toxoplasmosis in an immunocompetent patient, characterized by pneumonia, retinochoroiditis, hepatitis and myositis. Diagnosis was confirmed by serology, T. gondii in thick blood smear and presence of bradyzoites in muscle biopsy. Treatment with pyrimethamine plus sulfadoxine was successful but visual acuity and hip extension were partially recovered. This is the first...
متن کاملCerebellar Toxoplasmosis in an Immunocompetent Patient with G6PD Deficiency.
We report a case of an immunocompetent patient who presented with a short history of unilateral cerebellar lesion later proven as toxoplasmosis on histopathology. The case highlights that patients with G6PD deficiency are more prone to develop fatal toxoplasma infections than those individuals with normal G6PD activity.
متن کاملBrain abscess caused by Tsukamurella tyrosinosolvens in an immunocompetent patient.
We describe a previously healthy patient with chronic otitis media complicated with cerebellar abscess caused by Tsukamurella tyrosinosolvens. The organism was identified based on conventional biochemical identification methods, PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis of the hsp65 gene, and 16S rRNA gene sequencing. The patient was treated successfully with debridements and prolon...

متن کاملNocardia Brain Abscess in an Immunocompetent Patient
Nocardia cerebral abscess is rare, constituting approximately 1-2% of all cerebral abscesses. Mortality for a cerebral abscess of Nocardia is three times higher than that of other bacterial cerebral abscesses, therefore, early diagnosis and therapy is important. Nocardia cerebral abscess is generally occur among immunocompromised patients, and critical infection in immunocompetent patients is e...
